485 Speeding off on a Great Project

The cadets have been hard at work designing and prototyping a go-kart, in preparation for a larger one which will be used to teach design concepts and propulsion to the cadets.

First of all the cadets researched designs and plans of go-karts, to gain an understanding of go-karts which was used to come up with a few ideas and sketches of what we thought the go-kart would look like. From this we discussed on the best design for the go-kart to be drawn out and adding dimension lines to it.

“Cadet ownership of any project is vital as they will inspire those beneath them to become involved; the cadets have be given significant responsibilities throughout (i.e. the majority of the construction elements) all is supervised by trained staff”, A/FS Coates.

"We measured steel tubing and cut it to size, according to accurate paper-based plans. We then watched a video on welding and then the mainframes was welded together by a member of staff". Quote from Cdt Jenkins.
