Squadron achieves its goal

On Sunday 22nd June, 485 (Quniton & Harborne) Squadron travelled to Bramcote Barracks, to take part in the Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing Training Day. The squadron football team had reached the same point three years running. But this year after qualifying during the heats on the 18 May the team were thought to the quarter final.

The Semi-final between 485 and 487 had a fantastic turnout of supporters joining them to cheer their side on to victory. The short wait towards victory had started. The winners of this game would play 492 Squadron.

485 team flew through the game with a strong lead in the first half and secured their place in the final with a classy second performance.

The final however proved to be a much more exciting and closely thought game. 492 gained an early first half with a good counter attack until 485 sprung back and responded with a great equalizer. The game ended in a tie. It was taken into golden goal. This is when we saw 485’s team spirit and crowd support lift them to a memorable victory. The final and winning golden goal was scored by Cadet Curran with a well placed shot. The entire squadron erupted in celebration with pride and joy.

Pilot Officer Roper said: "Outstanding, brilliant and breathtaking, yous knows what I'm saying".
